I make deer

Hunter Adams screen print of Deer, the deer at the bottom is a shadow of the detailed deer. Using my distinct style i have followed the composition of my bear screen prints to encourage my template style. Photographed as it doesn't scan well.

I just love making flyers, especially for you Hunter

Hand rendered flyers based on drawings and collages made in my people book which is where i draw and document people in everyday life, photographs, magazines and friends/ family. Inspired by Martin O'neill a collage based fine artist that uses found materials and personal memories/ dreams to create his designs, i find his work highly influential and intriguing. After making this simplistic collage of my drawings and paper sources, i used further typography by hand to create a more detailed flyer which included dates and times of the gig. I made up Hunter's family album for the inlay design and these drawing were included, Hunter Adams at the top and below that is his younger brother Boi Adams. I have always loved the name Boi which i first heard in the film Coco before chanel where Coco's lover was called Boi as a french name, i always thought it sounded very unusual and alternative.

CD packaging- Hunter Adams

3D background grid to pop out the text. Printed on to ivory card to achieve a more natural colour and to wash out the white. Inlay designed to fit inside which has been hand drawn, no Photoshop used. My salmon is also an integral part of my extended band promo as it highlights a music label and that i have designed the salmon logo myself.

Fresh from the mind, crafted today

Promotional gig flyer, lino cut using oil based printing ink, which may i add does not dry even after a week!!!!!
Made using Photoshop to esemble the typography due to hand rendered type not being able to be applied onto wet artwork. I carved my bear design into lino cut, i wanted to experiment using lino cut as i have used screen printing and wanted to experiment with other types of print techniques as it greatly interests me and fits my template for designs. A5 size. The burgandy compliments the black tones of the bear and acts as a visually pleasing background for my lino art. Prints turned out crisp black and not blotchy, probably due to the use of oil based inks?

Mr. Hunter Adams is in the house

Hunter Adams initial band promo poster advertising album Nocturnal. With Hunter Adams i have used my drawing skills that focus mainly on fine lines and repetitive mark making. I have branched out Hunter Adams into a promotional cycle including flyres,CD packaging, inlay designs, single release posters and gig posters which to me have been very effective for this project. I have been using alot of collaging materials and paper layering which has been influenced by Martin O'Neill and his collages that originate from memories and dreams, ditto. Whilst designing for Hunter Adams, i have built a distinct profile of hi for e.g. his family album of drawings in the inlay designs. My advertising begins to be a real thing where i actually begin to think it's real and imagine what the music template will sound like, i am totally engrossed in what i am deigning which is the soul achievement for designing.

Have i not expressed enough how much i love salmon, well here you go Canada take it

Silver salmon initial promo poster, designed using Photoshop. Album called Chub which i have linked to the particular breed of salmon. My whole bear obsession co-insides with a link to salmon as they often are together when bears hunt salmon. I added noise to my poster to emphasize the grit and the rough feel. initially i thought i would be able to design for many more band promotion in an extended fashion but this was not the case as i felt that a more concentrated promo for three bands would be more visually pleasing.

Look what i made at school today mommy

Initial band promo poster for Miss Gyna album Innerpool. This is one of my early posters where based on the media i wanted to bring humour into advertisements and puns on text. Here i used the pen tool which i then used hand rendered typography to put this poster together. Liberty is all about using Photoshop as a tool, never over use modern technologies as i'm from the roots, hand rendered work expresses your creative abilities more. Brown paper is my favourite source of paper as it makes my designs look like they are actual soil, i like that alot. My 3D text seems to be illustrating my ever rising curiosity in everything 3D.

Salmon, Salmon and some more salmon

Either of these salmon logos appear on my album packaging as part of my band promotion as all designs centre around the salmon logo. I added noise to the bottom salmon to create a more grain based design that appears to have qualities of lo-fi.

Hunting for bears- album packaging (Bear Talk)

Here i have used the screen print of my bear which did not register properly but appears as a quite visually pleasing design used for the back cover. My salmon logo for which my band promo originates from is used in a discrete fashion but appears on all of my album packaging designs. When printed it appears on ivory card which fades the tones a little due to the 'blotchy' nature of the textured paper.

Screen printing rules all

The bear that took so long

Single release poster for Hunting for bears- Bear Meat. Photographed version. I tend to use long lines that to me resemble rain drops, they are used to add length to the design so the text can hang off and create a different way of presenting typography. Red is the base colour for this design as i feel the red highlights the structure and the blue adds detail such as the facial features.

Hunting for bears- mono print over screen print(gig+ single release)

Photographed in the frame
For this gig poster i mono printed over a bear screen print that came out a bit faded, so i added the fur using printing to mask the screen printing mistakes. The masking tape originates from my initial band posters where i look at a Pixies album cover Wave Of Mutilation for designs of the band Octopussy. Recycling bad screen prints to improve them makes my band promo more diverse in techniques used.

Hunting for bears- Screen print stencils reused for band promotion

V.I.P gig,
collaboration with
Hunter Adams

Album promo
poster NO. 2

After screen printing bears for Hunting for bears, i recycled the stencils used for the two colours to create new pieces of work. I just love recycling work to make new designs, to me recycling work is sometimes more creative than a new idea. The idea of repetitive line drawing, in this case extenuating the textured fur on my bear has been highly prominent throughout my work. Although the line drawing is very tedious, when it's done it looks like a graphically induced bear with hand rendered qualities. Muji pens are used in my work as they are the best graphic design pens in the world i.e 0.5 and 0.38. The typography used is white letraset which compliments the red and blue stencils.

3D flyers- Seamans

My theme within my work is grid designs. I found some 3D grid paper which i drew flyer designs onto also using colour within my work to produce a more unusual way of presenting band promotion. My flyers are simplistic which advertises the album Aquatic Symphony as a gig. I propose to have 3D glasses at the exhibition evening for viewers to use.

Flyers- When screen printing goes wrong for the better

Flyer on pink sugar
paper

Grid flyer
Flyers advertising Hunting for bears gig. Screen print that has been photographed. I have experimented with various paper sources like; grid paper and sugar paper to identify what is most effective. Advertising a gig for the album Bear Talk in A5 format. Hand rendered to achieve the rough texture.

Hunting for bears- Inlay designs

Front Cover

Back Cover

Double page spread
Inlay designs for Hunting for bears. I have incorporated the iconic bear and hand drawn images to portray my grunge theme. Ivory card has been used as the paper source as it allows the ink to create a 'blotchy' rough feel to the designs. My inlay wil be accompanied by the packaging also made using card. My images originate from my people log sketch book, which is where my ideas/ sketches have been formed into designs for band promo. I think i love bears too much. The bears fur is a similar style of drawing to Folvari's techniques which i have noted in relation to artist research.

Mr. Foldvari, draws he draws and draws.

My hand rendered band promo is mainly influenced by the works of David Foldvari, he continues to grab me literally within the drawing world. Foldvari's work looks at the 'gritty' aspects of life that encompasses my view of drawing being more textured and almost uneven. Drawing does not have to be perfect, i feel drawing is much more representative if it highlights grain and 'scratchy' styles. Foldvari once stated that 'Ugly= Beautiful' to me this is representation of an alternate drawing style that is perceived as ugly but really is beautiful. Particularly, Foldvari's black & white toned drawings are highly expressive and present the drawing style that i illustrate. Foldvari influenced my bears fur to be textured and rippled. I just love Foldvari

Hunting for bears

Hunting for bears- (promo poster for album Bears Talk) hand rendered and put together on Photoshop, the computer is my tool not my essence. The white 'paint' is toothpaste, top tip from Liberty it smells amazing, dries faster, brings a see through effect and is silky on the paper, what more do you want. Hunting for bears follows the indie/grunge template, therefore i have included the infamous brown paper background oh yeah. When designing this promo poster i have been re- introduced to brown tape and masking tape, what an amazing invention not just for a D.I.Y need but for graphic designers, i actually think that you can't get more hand rendered than that. Letraset is my new typography, it will never look 'tacky' it's my new favourite thing, it's clean cut and 'classy'.

A Canadian bear

The bear i have drawn for Hunting for bears is this bear from my story. I was driving with Roy in Vancouver when there was a bear in the road on it's hind legs making the grizzly noise. A man was trying to feed it oranges, he doesn't know yet that he is going to die probably. Roy slowed down, i stuck my head out of the window, all i wanted was to get closer. Roy wouldn't stop, he said we would die which lead to my interest in bears from being 7. The Stranglers were playing in the car. I don't have a bear but i call this dog my bear, his fur is textured on paper.

The bear that changed it all

Alongside my familiar obsession with all things salmon, after finding the bear on ffffound.com it seemed to bring back my liking towards bears. This bear instigated screen printing in red and blue. Hunting for bears. My drawing technique follows this style being textured cross- hatch.

Experimantal techniques, eat it from my palm

So far i have used;
Mono print
Screen print
Lino cut
Photo collages
Photoshop
My hand
Watercolour

I want to use as many experimental techniques as i can to have variation within my work and i want to tick those boxes.

Note to self- where is this going?

Producing band promotion for fictional bands that base mainly around the tempate style of the grunge era.
Sketchbook 1- Initial band promo i.e. poster advertising album release.
Sketchbook 2- Extended band promo i.e. band promo that is particularly visually pleasing will become the basis of a promo campaign.
Sketchbook 3- more extended band promo, i just can't get enough.
People sketchbook- I have noted previously that people are a main element of where my ideas derive from, being photographs, drawings, friends, quotes etc...
Throughout my project up to date I have been drawing people everywhere i go, everyday which enables me to gain ideas and designs for my band promotion.
Animal sketchbook- animals is another topic that i have become deeply intersted in when formulating ideas for band promo. I'm not going to lie, sometimes animals bore me so much that i don't want to draw them anymore, i just wantto draw people all day long.
More notes to self will follow.

Album artwork, with essence

Extended promo 1( Album artwork)- Front cover has incorporated my development of te Salmon. My Salmon is my logo for my fictional music label. My main theme throughout this project seems to be animals and humans in particular Salmon, my logo will appear on each album I design in a way that it is discrete. The back cover of grfx fades out the typography like a wave in the sea. making connections in my work is very important. Aquatic Symphony is the album name as the sea is like an orchestra. I printed this template onto cream card which had a bit of bumpy texture to it, which really compliments the style.

Digital pen drawing rules

To fit my template style for seamans as Techno music, i have embarked on using the pen tool for precise minimalist drawing, that's right ladies and gentlemen Liberty has been using Photoshop. Using the pen tool has enabled me to design my fictional band promotion alternatively than hand rendered styles. I aim to please the template style which in the case of Seamans is following the inspiration of the Kraftwerk era.
